I braved the Texas “cold” today. It is in the teens and super windy. Expecting snow tomorrow. I didn’t wanna do it. I was thinking about writing about this soon. I am known to be that girl, the one who hates the cold. But look at me eating my words hah!

I was listening to a podcaster in Texas today talk about the cold. I really do think that "cold" is all relative. After our hot Wisconsin summers, those first few 50 degree days feel absolutely freezing.

And by January, 30 degrees seems like a nice day, especially if the sun is shining.

Snow acts as an insulator, absorbing sound and making everything quieter. I love (and miss) Midwest winters, but I’m learning to appreciate my new Alaskan winters.

Yes! Chased the sun faced the cold on my 10 degree morning walk this morning! Absolutely a lifeline for me.

Living first in Texas and now Arizona, it's actually summertime walks that require a bit more bravery. Ironically though, it is snowing here today. I think perhaps we should take your advice and go on our normal 3 mile evening walk anyway.

I like hot weather, but Arizona hot seems like it is its own category of hot. With cold, you can always layer up but there is only so much you can do with the heat.

Yes. We are fortunate to be in the mountains, so it’s not Phoenix hot or anything. But I still tend to do my “hibernation” in the summer.

I really hate being cold, and love sleep. My vibe is that of a hibernating bear in winter.

However, I'm already experiencing cabin fever. There's snow outside and I watched it come down and I thought about how I just wanted to play in it. I went back and forth in my mind for a while until I decided to get up and just go. I'm glad I went out there.

I laid down in the snow, about to make a snow angel, when I realized it actually felt nice to lay there. The snow was soft and it was like laying on a giant cold pillow, molding to the shape of me. Laying down in the cold was actually quite nice.

I have lived in Wisconsin my whole life, and I really, really hated the cold. But then I learned two things:

1) If you dress in layers, the cold isn't so bad. And when I say layers, I mean layers: I often wear mittens over gloves if I'm going to be outside in the cold for a long time.

2) The cold is going to happen, and either I can be miserable or I can find something to enjoy. I started running on the trails in the winter and nothing beats a winter sunrise from the trail. The sky turns colors in winter that we don't get to see in the warmer months.

And you can't go wrong with snow angels. Even as a grown up, there's something fun about just being in the snow and making a print of yourself.

I really like laying outside, winter kind of dampens that lol. Those are really great tips for dressing and layers, I did not know that trick and I definitely could use more tips on that.
