At my last job I took a walk every day at lunch - it was the only way all the thoughts swirling around my head would settle down and I could see my way through problems.
There's a trail by my house here on Deer Isle, Maine. It goes back through a field currently blossoming with purple and blue lupines, down a gravel path alongside the Lilly Pond (more a lake than a pond, if you ask me) and then loops back around woods and fields and back up to my house. I walk that path when I need to clear my mind... which is at least once a day. So I hear you, and I'm glad you have found that space in your life and your work to remember that you are part of a bigger world.
Thank you for this reminder/permission! I left traditional locked-to-the-desk office work a year ago and it's still hard to give myself permission to take my work outside.
I do my best thinking on trail walks. Who would ever have believed we could dictate on our phones while clearing our heads in gorgeous and inspiring settings, but we do.
This! I do wish we all remembered that as children we'd go outside and play, and become creative. Making mud pies, finding frog friends, fearless. We forget that as time marches on. I enjoyed the read, and the title is perfect..
I always get my best ideas when I’m running! There is definitely something to what you are saying!

Wouldn’t it be great if that was the norm for more workplaces?
And what if it didn’t cost you a lunch hour to do it? More like: hey, I have to walk through this problem. I’ll be back in 45 minutes.

I also do a lot of thinking on my walks.
The trail is the ultimate office! When I seek creativity I take a hike

Thoughts come home while your body is roaming.
'The good thoughts tend to catch up when we stop chasing them' - love love love, thank you for sharing another great piece!
