I went to law school for this?!?!
Hey there, I’m Jenn.
I spent over 20 years practicing law—yes, really—and then one day, I walked away.
Before you think I’m crazy (or super irresponsible), let me explain. There were parts of practicing law I genuinely loved. I thrived in the courtroom—arguing cases, writing motions, and making my point. I have a tattoo on my arm that says “born to argue,” and honestly, it feels pretty accurate. But here’s the thing: I worked in a very niche area of law, and after the pandemic hit, everything shifted. In 2022, my partners and I were at a crossroads. When our office lease was up, we had to decide: keep pushing through an uncertain future or take the leap into something new.
At that point, I’d already built a thriving side hustle creating laser-cut art (I bought the laser cutter on a whim, and it turned out to be the Thing That Changed It All). I created things inspired by my sarcastic humor and the great outdoors, and it all really resonated with people. So, I took a risk and bet on myself. I called the state bar, put my license on “inactive,” and stepped away from the law for good.
And let me tell you, the freedom feels amazing.
No more long office hours, no more fluorescent lights. Instead, I can work and play as hard as I want, without worrying about whether my court hearings are covered or if I’ll have Wi-Fi during a weekend getaway (but not too far away). Nature has always been my happy place, but it was hard to enjoy it when I was chained to a desk. Now, I get to be outside on my terms—whether I’m hiking, running, camping, or just soaking up the quiet beauty of the world around me.
Don’t get me wrong—I’m not afraid of hard work. In fact, catch me in November working 18-hour days for weeks straight to keep up with the demands of the season. But the difference now is that I’m working on my own terms. And that means I have the time and space to create, to write, and to reconnect with nature. It’s everything I’ve ever wanted, and honestly, I didn’t fully understand it until I got here.
So, what will you find here? A mix of my adventures in the great outdoors, reflections on what it means to be human in nature, art, musings on changing paths, and probably the occasional picture of my adorable dog (because who can resist?).
Come along for the ride—I’d love to have you with me on the trail.
See you out there,
Jenn
