I love the title of this. Poignant, elegant and short titles always get me. Bravo.

I don't know how much more "in your face" (literally) climate change can be than this. How are things like this smoke, or the erratic torrential rains, followed by weeks of drought, not self evident and obvious that something is wrong?

It reminded me of an article I read on the Big Think. I'll post a partial quote here. The article was entitled "I went to space and discovered and enormous lie" (astronaut Ron Garan).

I have been taking some time off to heal from that nagging non-running injury, and the time has given me some space to think about what's important, and how i am spending my time (which is why I think sometimes running culture turns into an extension of consumer culture, per my other comment on yesterday's post, but I digress, I have a LOT more thoughts on this, and curiously I have been reading some elite's discussing it too... the focus on "outcome" or "goal" (consume) based running vs "process" or "experiential" (creative) based running, but I digress AGAIN).

Anyway, here is the quote, and a link to the article. It should be required reading for any politician seeking office.

"A curious phenomenon often occurs when astronauts travel to space and look out on our planet for the first time: They see how interconnected and fragile life on Earth is, and they feel a sudden responsibility to protect it. ....When he looked out on the planet, he saw an iridescent biosphere teeming with life, all protected by a remarkably thin atmosphere.....What he did not see was the thing that society often gives top priority: the economy. For Garan, seeing Earth from space revealed problems like global warming, deforestation, and biodiversity loss are not disconnected."

We got the smoke all the way over in southcentral Pennsylvania. It was strange to see so many people masking up again.
